Hello, My name is Ryan Rigo. Very few places have changed my life as much as this trail has. I’m from Chicago, a city I love, but a city that is very tough to live in health wise. This trail has given me countless hours of sunlight, meditation, and exercise. I find my most peaceful […]
It was a Wednesday morning around 6am. My boyfriend started joining me and my running buddies as the token male in the group for regular runs around Lady Bird Lake. It was Town Lake at the time. Our weekday runs were typically only a few folks, those who didn’t have early meetings for work and […]
To The Trail At a young age, my Nana and me, “I’m taking you to a fun place!” She said, and I wondered, “what could it be?” We pulled up to town lake, a new adventure for sure. Once we started walking I thought, “hey, this place is pretty cool!” Once we got to the […]
My first run on the trail was June 22, 2013. Not only had I just moved to Austin from Pennsylvania but I had also just signed up to run my first marathon, the Dallas marathon, in December of 2013 (which ended up getting cancelled 2 days prior to the race due to an ice storm). […]
My daughter, Julie, and I are avid and frequent users of The Trail and love it! For years when we go on hikes, we pack our traditional peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Julie surprised me and got me a commemorative brick on The Trail that says “We go together like PBJ” Love You Mom Xoxo […]
The Butler Trail is special to our family because it’s our five-year-old son, Simon’s, happy place. We live across the street from trail access and have been strolling the trail together almost daily ever since he was born. Simon likes observing people running, biking, and walking their dogs as well as spotting the decorative belts […]
Just over 15 years ago, I was in Australia for work and had a little downtime so I went and saw the movie “Supersize Me,” about the guy that ate McDonalds for a month straight. All the Australians were laughing and whispering a lot of comments along the lines of, “Typical out of shape obese […]
As former mayor of Austin, Roy A. Butler, used to say; “Things don’t just happen.” Grant Butler, his grandson, took that advice to heart when he decided to plant a large grove of 52 trees at the corner of Congress and 1st St. He did this in 2010 at the age of 15 years old. […]
When the dog could walk, he could run with the best of them. When he was alive, we would get up every Sunday morning, park by the Long Center, jog past the field with the kite festival hustle under the Mopac bridge, pass the boating docks, the gazebo and benches, and up to the foot […]
The day after my mom passed I woke up very early, before dawn. I was sad, but also relived, as she had endured the last couple of years becoming more debilitated from Parkinson’s disease. Still, I was sad. I didn’t want to wake my partner so I made a cup of coffee, and poured it […]

We have a closed course of 1000 ft of grassy parkland for children ages 5-15 to ride their bikes on. We will have open track time with experienced cyclists present to teach lessons and at the top of every hour, we will have timed laps for kids to test themselves and track their progress.
