Join The Trail Conservancy for a Meet the Artist event for the Eastside Play Area project! Talk with the project’s artist, Lys Santamaria and landscape architect, Rialto Studio. Together, we’ll explore how community stories and creativity can shape the art that makes our park a true reflection of home.
Free Tacos and Beverages will be provided.
Get to Know the Artist: Lys Santamaria
Selected from an open call in July, Lys is a Colombian-born, Austin-based artist whose work in glass beads and tile explores joy, healing, and storytelling inspired by her identity as a Latina, woman, and immigrant.
As a public artist, Lys describes her role as “a translator”—listening to communities, honoring their stories, and reflecting them through intentional design. Her current projects include a commission for the Joan Means Khabele Bathhouse Rehabilitation.

About the Project
eastside family garden
The Eastside Family Garden will revitalize over 2 acres of neglected parkland, creating a recreational space that blends traditional playscapes, nature play, and inviting gathering areas—all purposefully designed with shade, native restoration, and water access in mind.
