Longhorn Dam Pedestrian Bridge Benches

The Longhorn Dam Pedestrian Bridge will mark a milestone for the Butler Trail, completing the loop so Trail users can enjoy a seamless, traffic-free experience! To celebrate, we are unveiling our new art benches—a first for the Trail. Be the first to dedicate one of these beautiful benches, ensuring your presence on the Trail in perpetuity. Designed by Austin-based Lemmo Architecture and Design, these benches honor the neighborhood’s Hispanic roots, history, and culture. A total of 31 benches will be installed along the bridge, set to open in 2026. Dedicate a bench on this historic bridge today!

about the design

Austin design firm, Lemmo Architecture and Design, has been selected through an open call to create benches that will line the new Longhorn Dam Pedestrian Bridge. The bridge is expected to open in 2026, creating a safe new connection across Lady Bird Lake. The “Maraca” benches will be made of reclaimed/salvaged hardwood from cypress trees, and they will feature light tones that are weatherproofed. Additionally, the benches will be accented with powder-coated steel in shades that honor the neighborhood’s Hispanic roots, history, and culture.

"With nods to cultural moments that hold a special place in many of Austinite’s hearts, the benches should feel right at home alongside many of the iconic murals, public art, and other displays of color that can already be found dotting the city’s east side."
