I had just gotten off the City Council and I got a phone call from Mayor Roy Butler…and he says Mrs. Johnson wants to build a trail around Town Lake and she wants you to head up the Committee to raise the money and build it….and I said “what”….OK…I will do it for Mrs.J. so we put together a committee and started the fund raising…which the first big thing was a fund raiser at the ranch (LBJ)…which we got an unknown to play for free…named Willie Nelson…great party, and we got it stated..and it continued with lots of other events…and we all became runners and built the trail..who new it would turn us all into runners and become the thing it is today…Thank you Mrs.J…..Thank you for the job you guys are doing..amazing
Shake up your Wednesday nights with Music on the Trail—a free live music series right on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail. Every week, the Rainey Street Trailhead lawn transforms into Austin’s coolest outdoor concert spot, featuring incredible local musicians.
Kids on Bikes in Parks is a free cycling event presented by Violet Crown, The LeadOut Foundation, and The Trail Conservancy. We have a closed course of 1000 ft of grassy parkland for children ages 5-15 to ride their bikes on. We will have open track time with experienced cyclists present to teach lessons and at the top of every hour, we will have timed laps for kids to test themselves and track their progress.
