RENU is led by saxophonist and singer Renuka Jayasinghe. Hailing from the small town of Temple, Texas, Renuka is a first generation American with Sri Lankan roots. Renuka played music her whole life and at age 9, she took up the saxophone and never stopped since. After beginning her career as a professional saxophonist in Austin, Texas, she met her fellow bandmates through the scene and thus began the group RENU. They all shared a love for RnB and acid jazz and through their combined influences of artists like Erykah Badu, Hiatus Kaiyote, Nate Smith, and D’Angelo, they came together to create a fusion of musical magic right in the heart of Austin.
