DESCRIPTION:Join Rachel Zierzow and TTC staff\, Jonatan Salinas\, to find birds and observe their behavior on the new section of the Butler Trail\, the Holly Trailhead\, historically part of the decommissioned Holly Power Plant at Festival Beach. Recently planted native trees\, shrubs\, wildflowers\, and natural spring water dominate the landscape and provide excellent habitats for many different species of birds. As TTC restores this new section of the trail\, we will see a change of birds\, so you’ll want to come on this monthly walk. \nThis bird walk is ideal for beginners\, but all levels are welcome. We have binoculars to lend to anyone that doesn’t have a pair. Our walk will total 1-2 miles in about 3 hours\, making our way through the Holly Trail and adjacent to Lady Bird Lake to listen to and look for resident birds\, migrants\, and flyovers. The terrain is mostly flat (dissolved gravel trail and sidewalks) and there is ADA accessibility at the Holly Trail Overlook.  In winter\, we will stop at the Holly Trail overlook section of the trail a bit to watch the waterfowl. \nRegistration is required and is limited to 10 participants. A reminder email with pertinent details will be sent before the field trip. Register HERE!

DESCRIPTION:The Maraca Bench Trail Tour 2025\nThe Longhorn Dam Pedestrian Bridge will mark a milestone for the Butler Trail\, completing the loop so Trail users can enjoy a seamless\, traffic-free experience! To celebrate\, we are unveiling our new Maraca benches—a first for the Trail. Designed by Austin-based Lemmo Architecture and Design and fabricated by Harvest Lumber Co.\, these benches honor the neighborhood’s Hispanic roots\, history\, and culture. A total of 31 benches will be installed along the bridge\, set to open in 2026. \n \nWe’re taking our first Maraca bench on a trip around the Trail for everyone to see! The “roadshow” bench is the prototype we built to confirm bench height\, depth\, back angle and supports. Through this process\, we decided to reduce the width of the seat by 2-1/2 inches for the 14 benches to be placed on the bridge. The bench plaque will also be slightly smaller than shown at 3 x 10 inches. \nFrom February through the Fall of 2025\, catch a prototype of the Maraca bench at three spots on the Trail: \n\nFebruary – Rainey Street Trailhead\nMay – Auditorium Shores\nAugust – Holly Shores\n\nFebruary\nRainey Street TrailHead \nMay\nAuditorium Shores \nAugust\nHolly Shores \nThe “Maraca” benches will be made of reclaimed/salvaged hardwood from cypress trees\, and they will feature light tones that are weatherproofed. DESCRIPTION:Join Rachel Zierzow and TTC staff\, Jonatan Salinas\, to find birds and observe their behavior on the new section of the Butler Trail\, the Holly Trailhead\, historically part of the decommissioned Holly Power Plant at Festival Beach. Recently planted native trees\, shrubs\, wildflowers\, and natural spring water dominate the landscape and provide excellent habitats for many different species of birds. As TTC restores this new section of the trail\, we will see a change of birds\, so you’ll want to come on this monthly walk. \nThis bird walk is ideal for beginners\, but all levels are welcome. We have binoculars to lend to anyone that doesn’t have a pair. Our walk will total 1-2 miles in about 3 hours\, making our way through the Holly Trail and adjacent to Lady Bird Lake to listen to and look for resident birds\, migrants\, and flyovers. The terrain is mostly flat (dissolved gravel trail and sidewalks) and there is ADA accessibility at the Holly Trail Overlook.  In winter\, we will take a stop at the Holly Trail overlook section of the trail a bit to watch the waterfowl. \nRegistration is required and is limited to 10 participants. SUMMARY:Kids on Bikes in Parks
DESCRIPTION:Kids on Bikes in Parks is a free cycling event presented by Violet Crown\, The LeadOut Foundation and The Trail Conservancy. We have a closed course of 1000 ft of grassy parkland for children ages 5-15 to ride their bikes on. We will have open track time with experienced cyclists present to teach lessons and at the top of every hour we will have timed laps for kids to test themselves and track their progress.\nWe will have a fleet of bikes provided by WOOM Bikes on hand for any child wishing to try one or without a bike of their own to ride the course.\nAll participants are eligible to receive some giveaways from Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop and Trek Bikes.\n\nRegister at: https://www.bikereg.com/kids-on-bikes-in-parks-chicano

SUMMARY:Volunteer on the Trail
DESCRIPTION:The Trail Conservancy relies on volunteers to complete many ecological restoration projects\, events\, and tasks to keep the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail on the right trajectory toward improved ecological function. Volunteering with TTC ranges from litter abatement\, planting\, seeding\, invasive species removal\, and more. \nOur team works with individuals\, businesses\, corporations\, and community groups to complete hands-on Trail improvement projects throughout the year. We also receive grant funding for volunteer activities from the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department as part of its Lady Bird Lake Shoreline Stewardship Program. \nOur volunteers are at the core of what we do.
