Interview with Rachel Malish of Whole Foods Market
June 25, 2014
Whole Foods Market has been a loyal supporter of The Trail Foundation for many years, what makes this partnership successful? The Trail Foundation shares so many of Whole Foods Market’s core values, such as serving and supporting our local communities and practicing environmental stewardship. Each year we continue to find new ways to support the community together. The events and ideas that come from those conversations make such a difference.
How does the Trail fit into Whole Foods Market community outreach? A great example of our partnership with The Trail Foundation was our national Kids Day of Service event in September. We planned a volunteer activity with TTF that would engage kids and families from the Austin community, as well as our Whole Foods Market Team Members in a day of volunteerism followed by a healthy lunch. We learned about the Trail together, got our hands dirty planting wildflowers, and had an all-around amazing day.
What is your favorite spot along the Trail? I love the new boardwalk – it’s such a beautiful addition. I also love dog watching on the Trail! So many cute pups and they’re all so happy to be out and about.
What was your most memorable Maudie’s Moonlight Margarita Run experience and why? This past year was pretty memorable because it was my first 5K ever! I’ve always been a very light runner and never wanted to run more than a mile. In past years I’ve participated as a volunteer with Whole Foods Market for the event, so it was pretty special to run this year with my husband and nearly 200 of my fellow Whole Foods Market team members. Seeing everyone in the “Kale Yeah” t-shirts kept me motivated to complete the run!
