SUMMARY:Bird Walk with Travis Audubon
DESCRIPTION:Join Rachel Zierzow and TTC staff\, Jonatan Salinas\, to find birds and observe their behavior on the new section of the Butler Trail\, the Holly Trailhead\, historically part of the decommissioned Holly Power Plant at Festival Beach. Recently planted native trees\, shrubs\, wildflowers\, and natural spring water dominate the landscape and provide excellent habitats for many different species of birds. As TTC restores this new section of the trail\, we will see a change of birds\, so you’ll want to come on this monthly walk. \nThis bird walk is ideal for beginners\, but all levels are welcome. We have binoculars to lend to anyone that doesn’t have a pair. Our walk will total 1-2 miles in about 3 hours\, making our way through the Holly Trail and adjacent to Lady Bird Lake to listen to and look for resident birds\, migrants\, and flyovers. The terrain is mostly flat (dissolved gravel trail and sidewalks) and there is ADA accessibility at the Holly Trail Overlook.  In winter\, we will stop at the Holly Trail overlook section of the trail a bit to watch the waterfowl. \nRegistration is required and is limited to 10 participants. A reminder email with pertinent details will be sent before the field trip. Register HERE!

As TTC restores this new section of the trail\, we will see a change of birds\, so you’ll want to come on this monthly walk. \nThis bird walk is ideal for beginners\, but all levels are welcome. SUMMARY:TrailFit Junior: Yoga with Just Keep Livin Foundation
DESCRIPTION:Join TTC and the Just Keep Livin Foundation for a special edition of TrailFit: TrailFit Junior. This community workout for high school-aged kids will feature a yoga session led by ATX Yoga Girl\, Cynthia Aguillón Bernard. \nRegular exercise has been proven to reduce stress\, anxiety\, and depression while boosting self-esteem and brain activity.  In fact\, exercise has many of the same effects on the brain as antidepressant medications because it triggers the release of serotonin (the happy hormone)\, yet 70% of high school students don’t meet the recommended daily amount of physical activity. In the JKL program\, 95% of students get more exercise. \nAbout JKL\nThe Just Keep Livin Foundation was founded by Camila and Matthew McConaughey and is dedicated to empowering high school students by providing them with the tools to lead active lives and make healthy choices for a better future. In keeping with the mindset and goals of j.k. livin\, the foundation has set up fitness and wellness programs in Title 1 high schools where students might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn about the body and mind connection.

DESCRIPTION:Holly Shores Community Engagement\nIn the spring of 2024\, The Trail Conservancy held a community open house\, spoke with several focus groups\, popped up at neighborhood events\, presented to neighborhood associations\, and interviewed neighbors. We learned neighbors’ goals\, priorities\, and visions for the play area\, trailhead\, and trail enhancements originally identified in the Holly Shores/Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach. Our team heard from 115 people in person and 146 through an online survey\, with 89% of respondents from the 78702 zip code\, which serves the Holly neighborhood and surrounding areas. \nSee project details and summary of our previous community events on the Holly Shores project page or view the project StoryMap. \n  \nHelp Us Design!\nWHAT: Virtual open house event; be a part of our design team and provide input to help us prioritize which park/Trail elements should be added and where at Holly Shores \nWHERE: Zoom (Meeting Registration Link) \nWHEN: September 25 from 6:30-7:30 PM \n  \nIf you can’t attend the event on this date\, we have one more open house opportunity in person on October 7.
