Talk with the project’s artist\, Lys Santamaria and landscape architect\, Rialto Studio. Together\, we’ll explore how community stories and creativity can shape the art that makes our park a true reflection of home.  \nFree Tacos and Beverages will be provided. \n					\n									Add to Calendar\n					 \n\n						Get to Know the Artist: Lys Santamaria					\n						Selected from an open call in July\, Lys is a Colombian-born\, Austin-based artist whose work in glass beads and tile explores joy\, healing\, and storytelling inspired by her identity as a Latina\, woman\, and immigrant. \nAs a public artist\, Lys describes her role as “a translator”—listening to communities\, honoring their stories\, and reflecting them through intentional design. Her current projects include a commission for the Joan Means Khabele Bathhouse Rehabilitation.					 \nAbout the Project\nThe Eastside Family Garden will revitalize over 2 acres of neglected parkland\, creating a recreational space that blends traditional playscapes\, nature play\, and inviting gathering areas—all purposefully designed with shade\, native restoration\, and water access in mind.

We discussed early concept designs for the play area\, trailhead\, and trail enhancements originally identified in the Holly Shores/Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach. Our team heard from 267 people in person and 356 through an online survey\, with 30% of respondents from the 78702 zip code. \nHelp Us Design! | Open House\nWe are in our final phase of community engagement! We need your input to finalize and refine our concept designs for the future play area\, trail enhancements\, and new trailhead at Holly Shores. \nJoin TTC on April 22 from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Mendez Recreation Center to share your thoughts and enjoy free breakfast tacos.
