Talk with the project’s artist\, Lys Santamaria and landscape architect\, Rialto Studio. Together\, we’ll explore how community stories and creativity can shape the art that makes our park a true reflection of home.  \nFree Tacos and Beverages will be provided. \n					\n									Add to Calendar\n					 \n\n						Get to Know the Artist: Lys Santamaria					\n						Selected from an open call in July\, Lys is a Colombian-born\, Austin-based artist whose work in glass beads and tile explores joy\, healing\, and storytelling inspired by her identity as a Latina\, woman\, and immigrant. \nAs a public artist\, Lys describes her role as “a translator”—listening to communities\, honoring their stories\, and reflecting them through intentional design. Her current projects include a commission for the Joan Means Khabele Bathhouse Rehabilitation.					 \nAbout the Project\nThe Eastside Family Garden will revitalize over 2 acres of neglected parkland\, creating a recreational space that blends traditional playscapes\, nature play\, and inviting gathering areas—all purposefully designed with shade\, native restoration\, and water access in mind.
